ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to reward 12 top performers of the ongoing Champions T20 Cup, sources told Geo News on Tuesday.
According to the details, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with five mentors Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik and Sarfaraz Ahmed here to review the inaugural edition of the event.
In the meeting, the PCB chair inquired the five mentors about the top performers in each department of the game.
In response, the mentors identified two to three players, who excelled in the three sectors.
As a result, around 12 top-performing players were selected from the Champions T20 Cup from all three departments, whose training, diet and fitness will now be borne by the cricket board.
Sources further claimed that the PCB will work on the selected players to further improve their skills.
“The team needs players with a strike rate of more than 150,” Naqvi told mentors.
“Former Test cricketer Abdul Razzaq has also been given the responsibility to look for batters with hefty strike rates as we aim to find players for modern day cricket for the national T20 team and give them a chance at the national level,” he added.
For the unversed, the inaugural edition of the Champions T20 Cup is nearing completion as Markhors and Stallions are scheduled to lock horns in the highly-anticipated final on December 25 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The ongoing five-team tournament was played in ‘a new cut-throat format’ to enhance the intensity of the competition.
As per the format, the table-topper after the double-league stage advanced directly to the final, while the second and third-placed teams faced off in the Qualifier.
